About the studio

One studio, made-to-order, no stock.

Superstar Prints is a UK personalised wall-art studio. Every print is made specifically for the person who ordered it — no generic designs sitting in a warehouse waiting for a buyer.

How it started

It started with a name on a wall.

The first print the studio made was a name print for a friend's newborn — a simple A2 in clean bold type, framed in black. The nursery had everything except something on the wall that said who the room belonged to. The print took an afternoon to design and two days to arrive. The friend told everyone who visited where they had got it.

More requests followed. A wedding date print. A quote poster for a kitchen. A retirement gift for a colleague with thirty years of dates on it. It became clear quickly that personalised wall art had a specific gap in it: most of it looked either too busy, too cheap, or too obviously algorithmic. The studio's job was to produce prints that looked like someone had thought about them, because someone had.

The name Superstar Prints came from the first customer's child — a two-year-old who insisted that her name print on the wall made her a superstar, because her name was on it and names belong to important people. It stuck.

How prints are made

What actually happens when you order.

Every order starts with the details you send: a name, a date, a quote, a colour preference. The studio takes those details and builds a layout specific to your order — not a template with a name dropped in, but a composition designed around the specific text and the specific size you have chosen. Short names and long names set differently. A two-line quote needs different spacing than an eight-word motto. Each layout gets individual attention.

Before anything goes to print, a digital proof is sent by email. This is a full-resolution preview of exactly what will be produced. At this stage, changes are easy and free — a different typeface weight, a different colour, a word correction, a layout adjustment. The studio encourages people to look carefully at the proof and ask for changes. A print that goes up wrong is worse than one that ships a day late.

Once the proof is approved, the print is produced on a wide-format pigment printer using 250gsm acid-free archival paper. Pigment inks are used because they are stable — a properly stored print on this stock will not fade visibly for well over a hundred years under normal household lighting. The print is checked against the proof, trimmed to size, and packed flat in a rigid board envelope or, for A1 and A0, rolled in a protective tube.

What the studio believes about good wall art

Most things on walls are there by default — a print bought quickly to fill a space, a canvas from a high-street chain that a hundred other houses have too. The work the studio does is different in one specific way: it can only belong to the person who ordered it. A wedding date print has two names and one date on it. A birth announcement has one child's weight and one child's time of arrival. Nobody else can use it. That is the entire point.

  • Specificity is the product. The detail that makes a print personalised is also what makes it worth keeping.
  • Clean design outlasts trends. The studio avoids decorative flourishes that will look dated in five years. Strong type, right size, right paper. That is the formula.
  • Archival materials are worth the cost. A print on 250gsm pigment stock will outlast almost everything else in the room. That is the standard the studio works to.
  • Proofs before printing, every time. No order goes to print without approval. This is not negotiable. It is how the studio avoids mistakes and how customers get exactly what they envisioned.
  • Honest timescales. If there is a deadline, tell the studio. If the deadline is not achievable, it will be said clearly at the time of ordering — not discovered when the parcel arrives late.

Paper, inks and framing

The studio uses 250gsm acid-free archival paper in two finishes: smooth and textured. Smooth is the default. It suits bold typography and clean graphic prints where the text needs to be crisp. Textured stock suits line art and watercolour-style illustrations where a slight surface grain adds to the quality of the image.

All prints are produced using pigment-based inks. Pigment inks sit on the surface of the paper rather than soaking into it, which means colours stay accurate for far longer than dye-based alternatives. A print kept out of direct sunlight and away from excessive humidity will not show any visible fading within the lifetime of the people who ordered it.

Frames are standard box frames, 20mm depth, in black and white, with real glass and an off-white mount. They are available for A4, A3, A2 and A1 prints. A0 prints are too large for the frames the studio sources and are supplied tube-rolled. If you have a frame already and want to know whether a print will fit, the studio can confirm dimensions before you order.

Ordering and contact

Orders are placed by email. Send the details of what you want. The print type, the size, the text, any colour preferences, whether you want a frame, and the studio responds with a quote and a timeline. There is no checkout to navigate, no account to create. You send what you want, the studio confirms the price and sends a proof, and the print ships once you approve it.

The email address is [email protected]. The studio responds to all enquiries within one working day, usually faster. If you have a question before ordering (about sizing, paper, colour matching, or whether a specific idea will work) send it. Questions are welcome.

A note on bespoke requests: the studio does not maintain a fixed catalogue. If you have an idea for a print that is not described on this site, ask. The range of what is possible is broader than the examples listed, and most ideas that can be expressed in type and image are achievable.

Start with an email.

Tell the studio what you want on the wall. The occasion, the name or date, the room it is going in. A proof comes back within a working day and nothing prints until you approve it.
